新設計新感受
新的 WH-1000XM5 比上一代 WH-1000XM4 最大的外型分別在於耳機的頂部頭帶更幼，看起來更美。耳罩跟頭帶之間的「臂位」外露，令耳罩比以往稍稍大一點。不過整體重量僅為 250g，比以往的 XM4 254g 略輕一點。
可播 40 小時
持航力方面，啟動 ANC（主動式降噪）功能後可連續使用 30 小時，跟上一代相約。若沒有使用 ANC 則可使用 40 小時，較上代長 10 小時。充電時間方面，若充電 3 分鐘已可足夠播放 3 小時，要完成一次完整充電則需 3 小時。
提升降噪能力
WH-1000XM5 內置 8 個麥克風，比上一代多 4 個，Sony 表示這對降低一些高頻噪音有更好的效果。
