因為中國法律上的要求，Apple 近日將中國 iCloud 帳戶轉到中國的數據中心。不過，近日 TechCrunch 報導指一些海外用戶（例如美國地區）也收到 Apple 的電郵通知，其 iCloud 帳戶資料也會被轉移到中國，造成不少人對私隱的擔憂。而 Apple 終於回應有關消息，表示這些非中國地區用戶只是因 Apple 的錯誤而收到電郵，強調只有中國地區 iCloud 帳戶資料才會改到中國的數據中心。其他地區的 iCloud 用戶資料不會有影響。
由於 iCloud 是按 Apple ID 地區而設計，理論上身在中國的用戶只要不是用中國地區的 Apple ID，其 iCloud 資料也不會儲存在中國的數據中心。不過，如果在海外但使用中國地區的 Apple ID，很有可能也會使用中國地品的數據中心來儲存 iCloud 資料。
